Join one of the trips Well Connected Travel has on offer. Take the opportunity to assist with the preservation of one of the world's most respected animals and to explore Thailand - the land of smiles. Visit Bangkok, the rich green hills of the tribal north, the lush jungle of the interior, and the paradise of the southern islands and beaches. As a volunteer you will be assisting at "The Elephant Nature Park" in Chiang Mai, established to preserve the future of elephants in Northern Thailand.
Get up close to these black & white beauties - a symbol of endangered species throughout the world. For lovers of wildlife, your days spent at the sanctuary will offer a thrill that you'll remember for a lifetime. Your onward travels through China are equally impressive - visiting the Great Wall, the Forbidden City & the chance to cycle through some stunning scenery.
The Maasai people of Tanzania live in a stunning wilderness which encompasses the vast grassy plains of the Serengeti, renowned as one of the world's greatest wildlife habitats, and the unique ecosystem of the Ngorongoro Crater. Until the 20th century this region was largely untouched by the western world but today the traditional lifestyle of the Maasai is fading. Volunteers will take part in the day to day activities of a Maasai village, allowing you to experience and help preserve the Maasai culture first hand. You will enjoy a fantastic safari with the chance to see a huge array of game including migratory herds of wildebeest, lion and cheetah, leopard, elephant, buffalo & rhino.
Make a difference to the lives of some of Nepal's poorest children. For many children in Nepal, it is extremely difficult to obtain a good education. Not least among the problems that they face is the shortage of basic facilities, with schools lacking toilets, classrooms, playgrounds, libraries & even clean drinking water. Volunteers have the unique chance to join with a Nepali community to help build or renovate their local school & experience day to day life in this amazing country.
Experience of eastern Kenya is one of the most inviting combinations for any traveller to the region. The warm, shimmering sea, lush rainforest, a huge array of wildlife & the most welcoming, friendly people make this a "must do" tour. Attractions are combined with a rare opportunity to work amongst wild African elephants within a picturesque sanctuary that is also home to warthog, impala, monitor lizard & baboons.
Years of cattle farming in Namibia have had an adverse effect upon the environment. Your task here will be to help to eradicate the ever encroaching sickle bush, opening up the land once more so that its natural wildlife returns. In addition you will also have a superb two weeks exploring all the facets of this incredible country. An incredible tour encompassing everything southern Africa can offer as well as helping preserve the habitat for generations (both human & wildlife) to come.
Ecuador has a range of ecosystems from snowy Andean peaks to tropical jungles. The Alto Choco Reserve covers thousands of acres of cloud forest with wildlife that includes Andean spectacled bears & dwarf deer. Imaginative Volunteers will have the chance to work in this beautiful reserve which is located in one of the ten most biologically important zones in the world. After working at the reserve, you'll travel around Ecuador discovering a fascinating blend of colonial & indigenous cultures, charming towns & villages with impressive architecture & colourful local markets.

The essence of sustainable tourism is to:
1) Make optimal use of environmental resources that constitute a key element in tourism development, maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity.
2) Respect the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities, conserve their built and living cultural heritage and traditional values, and contribute to inter-cultural understanding and tolerance.
3) Ensure viable, long-term economic operations, providing socio-economic benefits to all stakeholders that are fairly distributed, including stable employment and income-earning opportunities and social services to host communities, and contributing to poverty alleviation.
Sustainable tourism should also ensure a meaningful experience to tourists, raising their awareness about sustainability issues and promoting sustainable tourism practices amongst them.
There are many different type of holidays and trips you can take that support “Sustainable Tourism”.
Fair Trade tours - ensure both visitors and those visited benefit. What is Fair Trade? Fair Trade ensures a fair price is paid to artisans, supports disadvantaged producers, has a concern for people & the environment, provides new market access to producer groups, strengthens artisans' capacity to market their products Fair Trade… is transparent with producers and customers
Volunteer Vacations - holidays that include service projects. Providing a unique opportunity to immerse yourself within a community or project combined with an exciting adventure holiday. Our volunteer trips offer you the chance to make a significant contribution whilst gaining an invaluable insight into a different society. Make a real difference whilst maximising your experience with a tour of the region at the end of your placement.
What is Ecotourism – Ecotourism includes programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for the local communities.
Agritourism - which encompasses protection of family farms and the Slow Food Movement. The Slow Food philosophy promotes using local seasonal produce in cooking, traditional foods, and enjoying food through communal meals. It also encourages produce to be farmed using environmentally friendly, sustainable practices.
